Experience Points (XP)
- Reading out loud - Alex Brewster
- You definitely have to tailor both your positives and negatives to your specific students. I teach college freshmen, both online and FTF. So mine include things like coming to my office hours or online chat times with questions.
A reward for students who are starting to do "term papers" and similar longer assignments is XP if they bring you their assignment before it's due for some help and feedback! - Laura Trauth
- I have: Making up missed work, and Stayed for tutoring for clarification - Thomas Newsome
- I find that allowing students to give suggestions helps with buy in. They like being able to modify the game content. - Andrew McCann
- My students receive XP for content-related behaviors; improving on a math-facts test, completing assignments, leveling-up in IXL or Zearn, explaining their thinking in front of the class. - Kim Jorgensen
Health Points (HP)
- My negatives in the online class include not logging in for 3 or more days straight. - Laura Trauth
- My negatives are incomplete homework -40 but owning up at the beginning of the lesson for incomplete homework only -30 (this means they own up to lack of homework which cuts down on the checking for me)
Also overdue tasks, negative attitude towards the content or subject. - Geneviéve Galvin
- -10 Not prepared for class (binder, textbook, pencil, pen)
-15 Wasting time in class
-20 Cell phone used in class for unrelated tasks (texting, etc.) - Adam Pugh
Gold Pieces (GP)
- We have Thunder Awards that are given as a PBIS in our school. I give students XP and GP when they receive a Thunder Award from ANY teacher. That way they realize that not only should they act good for me BUT others as well. - Jeffrey Holley
- Being ready to learn or ignoring a neighbor who is being disruptive - Kim Jorgensen
- I like to attach GP as rewards when I post Class Content Videos for my students to watch and comment on.
I have a few parents that give out GP as incentive for completing homework and doing chores, or being nice to their siblings. - Kevin Campana
- Someone suggested giving kids gold on their birthday and their teammates a smaller amount (kinda like party favors). - Nicholas Hendley
- The Classcraft Team
