Tips when starting to use Classcraft!
Hi, everyone:
We’ve collected various tips on how to play Classcraft from teachers with lots of experience using the game. Feel free to add your ideas here!
- Don’t ever, ever, ever skip a day. It will haunt you. - Dale Tse
- Get parents on board and right away. Make sure they understand the game and why it is being used. - Joshua Ducharme
- Make sure you explain with crystal clarity the importance of teamwork and of selecting selfless powers. Show them how Healers, Warriors and Mages using their powers for each other actually helps them level up. - Tom Hills
- Check all the tools available in Classcraft, you can customize a lot of things, like the student powers, or the amount of AP they regen everyday. - Rodolfo Kimura
- Check the powers for each character! Make sure that you can abide by each. For example Hunting — our school my school has laid down the rule this year of NO eating in class, so I had to change that power. Also, check out the punishments — get your students to help you make these! - Nelda Taylor
- Make the powers more significant. Your students probably don't care that much about being able to open a window. Heck, in my building they couldn't — they are bolted shut! I give every character class the "powers" that are things they always beg me for anyway: extensions on assignments, revisions of assignments, the ability to use their notes on a quiz or test … . And CC is the ONLY way they get those things. Most students know they will need to ask for an extension at least once, so they sign up! - Laura Trauth
- I like to have positives for every negative. I will take HP for missing/late work ... but I give them XP for work handed in on time. - Merlyn Conwell
- Offer a pizza party at the end of the year to the group that accumulates the highest amount of Experience Points. - Merlyn Conwell
- My main tip is to be sure that you do the Random Event every day. I find that there are days when I don't necessarily need to take away HP or reward XP, but there is always time for the Random Event. The kids LOVE it. - Travis Phelps
