School Store

I am a bit confused about the school store, I understand it allows you to exchange a student's GP for real world items.

My question is, how is that any different from just going to a student's profile, modifying points manually, subtracting GP and just putting them item name as a reason. It seems unnecessary extra work. Does the school store do anything else besides just subtract GP, can you save a list of items with prices for quick clicking access? Am I missing something?
