Expanding the Classroom Experience

I wanted to add a few ways I take Classcraft a little further in my classroom to make it more immersive and add even more excitement to the day. Pretty much everything I put on here is on a Team Drive in Google Drive and I am happy to share as a PDF and an editable version.

So, first entry: I have created just a few laminated and reusable printouts that I call Desk Events. The students will find these on their desk in the morning whenever I feel that it is appropriate. We have a PBIS initiative called P.R.I.D.E. - Persistence, Respectfulness, Initiative, Dependability, and Efficiency.

Sorry about the red underlining...I took screenshots.

My new bulletin board with XP, HP, Gold, and Sentences.

My new Adventurer of the Week bulletin board. The student's current armor and pet picture will go on the blank sheet.

My new lesson connections bulletin board. Students place post-it notes with comments as a sort of exit ticket.

My new Notice Board bulletin board. Excited about this one. Almost all of the notices affect classroom life with actual interaction. A few posts are just for immersion. Wanted posters are usually going to be the bosses we will fight (reading tests), Call to Arms will be announcing the next Daily Language or Daily Math Quiz Skirmish, Hero Needed (rescue missions) will generally be our math tests but the first one if you can read it is a mission to reach out to new students,  Rewards are encouraging a good behavior, Royal Decrees are announcements or project due dates from me, Bounties discourage negative behavior by setting a goal for the class, Warnings discourage negative behavior, Monster Contracts are levels of mastering the times tables, and Attention posters are enrichment work with rewards. These will change out as new boss battles (tests) approach, as new negative behaviors I want to discourage show up, etc.

Wow, this bounty board is so epic, Robert!

I want to take your class!

Thanks Nicolas. You're welcome any time!

Have a great year.

My Victory Conditions poster. Students get colored star stickers corresponding to their scores for each Boss Battle (reading test), Skirmish (daily language review quizzes), Rescue Mission (math test), Spelling Quest, Treasure Quest (vocabulary quiz) etc. They will place their colored stars on a card almost like a kill count painted on the sides of aircraft cockpits.

Instituted something called Banner Carrier. At the end of the day, each team votes for the teammate that was helpful, considerate, efficient, etc. That student gets to become Banner Carrier and the team flag gets placed by their name on the Leaderboard. They remain Banner Carrier for the next day until the end of the day when the team votes again.Thinking about Banner Carriers receiving an increased percentage of gold or XP or possibly a special privilege for the day.

What you have created as far as an experience for your students is simply amazing!  They are very lucky to have you! If you are still allowing people to access your drive I would love that.  Thank you in advance and thanks for sharing!  You have certainly inspired me.  And, Classcraft should hire you right away.

My Trials of the Bulwark Multiplication Mastery Quest is up on the Marketplace!

Created some more Shop Items. Thinking about having an "Inn at the Crossroads" objective within my PBIS character strengths quest where students can buy shop items. More items available in my Google Shared Drive. Email me at RLEPPERT@GCCSCHOOLS.COM and I would be happy to add you.

Some new shop items. Gnomish items are bargain buys, but they have a chance to misfire with fun effects.

Working on a few more Shop Items and I have started to think about those students whose home life is not quite like ours was growing up. Student's whose parents are too busy or may not care to keep them supplied, planner signed, and who have never been shown how to manage themselves. These less expensive shop items allow these students to make up for some of these shortfalls.

A few new shop items. Higher gold prices for more endgame type abilities.

Not quite sure about these shop items yet. My intent is to avoid end of day craziness at pack up time and announcements. I'm wanting to try and make sure casting a trap would not create a negative feeling toward the caster, but almost an appreciation that they warned them. The only penalty would come from me, not the student casting the trap. We'll see if it works out.

New Shop Item that corresponds with a Random Event, Gauntlet Infinitum!

Below is a link to a Screencastify of my DLR Skirmish. Every 2 weeks we have a Daily Language Review Quiz which are "Skirmishes." They fight a different monster each time and have different buffs and debuffs. Each team also rolls a D10 before the quiz to see how much damage they receive from the encounter.

Below is a link to a Screentastify of one of my Vocabulary Treasure Quests. Every two weeks we have a vocabulary quiz and the students go on a Treasure Quest. It's a little jittery, but the screen capture is how I introduce the quest before they take the quiz. Scores of 75% or higher earn 25 Gold, scores of 90%-99% recieve a magical charm with a special effect, and scores of 100% receive the coveted relic. I will put examples of a charm and relic inder the screenshot.

Below is a link to a Screentastify of one of my Spelling Quests. Every two weeks we have a spelling quiz and the students go on a Spelling Quest. It's a little jittery, but the screen capture is how I introduce the quest before they take the quiz. Team test scores add up to try and beat the Mission Point rating. You will see two different MP ratings because I have teams with different numbers of students.

Below is a link to a Screentastify of one of my Rescue Missions. While our reading tests are Boss Battles, our math tests are Rescue Misions. It's a little jittery, but the screen capture is how I introduce the Rescue Mission before they take the math test. Team test scores add up to try and beat the Mission Point rating. You will see two different MP ratings because I have teams with different numbers of students.
