If I use only the free version, am I pretty much just using it for behavior management? Are there battles available in the free version? Can they do any kind of quest to practice ELA skills?

To answer your first question: essentially -- yes. Classcraft premium gives you access to Quests, Boss Battles (in-class formative review) and so much more. 

If you would like to try out a Quest with one of your own classes, please feel free to import our Discovery Education Quest, which is a Classcraft Quests teachers can use through the free version.
