I am going to start using Classcraft and have a few questions for the pros.

Hi there! My name is Mary Dunn and I teach 8th Grade Science. I think Classcraft will work excellently in my class and help with student achievements and behavior. However, I am a little concerned about how I will be able to maintain and manage it consistently. We are very hands on and I am actively busy the whole class period. I thought about carrying an IPAD around to manage the game as I go, but I have another idea that I want to know if it will work. I operate heavily on clipboards and have one for every occasion! Do you think it would work if I were to create a document that I could use during class and then input it all at the end of the day? I already do this with so many other things, but I am not sure if that would be a good option for the game. I know how important immediate feedback is in the actual game, but I am really concerned about my ability to do it during class. I could really use some tips! Thanks!

Hi Mary,

I have the same exact concerns and no one has yet responded to my post yet. I found a little in the old forums, though not enough to help me decide.

As cool as this whole thing sounds, I just can't imagine spending my time during class doing data entry rather than, you know, helping students learn!

Have you tried it yet? Did you try it both live and with the clipboard?

Hi Mary,
Hi David,

Thanks for considering implementing Classcraft in your classroom. :-)

Since no other teacher has chimed in yet, I've tried to find posts that might address your concerns regarding giving/taking away points during or after class:

Hope these help!

Happy Thanksgiving David!

I have not tried it yet, and plan on implementing it in our 2nd Semester. We received a reply containing some new information which I am excited to check out. I am hoping it will be less daunting than it currently seems to be. I would  really like to use this in my class. I'm glad I am not the only one with these concerns.

Good luck to us both I guess!

Thank you Anne Marie!

I am excited to look in to those! Thank you so much for taking the time to help us out. =>

Thanks for the info, Anne Marie. The links were helpful. I think until I know how the game works, I might just have to use it myself and let it play out in real time. I also think that will help the students learn the game too.

Once I think we've figured it out, maybe I'll move to letting a student run it in the background and only stopping class if someone is falling in battle or for random events, etc. I like the idea of only giving people 3 sec to respond if they need to. Let's keep it moving!

We'll see how it goes!

Hi Mary,
Hi David,

I was happy to help! Let us know how it goes. :-)

Hi there!  I know this is a couple of months late, but I thought I'd share my paper strategy for classcraft.  I don't have a tablet, and I don't always have classcraft projected, so I made a sheet that I fill out daily that I can write down changes on.  I'll say something like "In two minutes I'll walk around and if you are finished you will get +10 XP and if you are not done I will take 5 HP" and I'll write name on clipboards so they know, and then take the damage at the end of class.

Here is a link to a google doc of my paper that I made :) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QJ_zI2Rpu21BHQH1A7WunEIl4eYhvizZvNim4IyIWWU/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks Korinn. That is very helpful.
