Assigning and unassigning Quests
You can assign a Quest to several classes, which means that it can be played by your different student groups without you having to create and edit it over and over again. Unlike when you duplicate a Quest (which creates a separate copy), a Quests that's assigned to several classes is the same Quest in all of the classes it's assigned to.
When a Quest is assigned to several classes ...
… the following settings are specific to each class a Quest is assigned to:
- Objective Rewards
- Assignments
- Due dates
- Self-paced progress
- Discussion
- Google Classroom class and assignment (if linked)
- Student Progress
- Quest position on the world map
Changes made to these settings in one class won’t have any effect on the Quest in your other classes. If you want, you can sync an objective’s class-specific settings to any number of other classes through the objective settings.
… and the following settings are shared between your classes:
- Title
- Map
- Paths
- Whether an objective is linked to Google Classroom or not
- Number of objectives
- Objective positions
- Story
- Task titles and descriptions (unless they’re Google Classroom tasks)
If you edit a setting that’s shared, the change will be reflected in every single class the Quest is assigned to. This will help you easily fix typos in your story or change the map background without having to open the quest in every single one of your classes.
You can view which classes a Quest is assigned to by viewing it in My Library or:
- Access the dashboard of any class the Quest is assigned to
- Click the Quest icon in the sidebar navigation
- Select the Quest on the world map
Assigning a Quest
While you have the opportunity to assign a Quest to various classes during the creation process, you can also do so later in My Library:
- Click My Library in the upper navigation of your home page
- Click Quest
- Find the Quest you want to assign to other classes in the list
- Click Assign to classes in the righthand menu
- Select the classes you want to assign this Quest to
- Click Assign in the lower right corner to confirm
If the Quest you just assigned to other classes contains Google Classroom objectives, click the to finish setting up this aspect of the Quest.
The Add student () button indicates that there are no students in the class this Quest has been assigned to. Click on it to start the process of adding students to this class.
Unassigning a Quest
Quests are always assigned to at least one class — that is they can't exist on their own. However, if you no longer need a quest assigned to a specific class, you can unassign it without deleting the quest. To do so:
- Click My Library in the upper navigation of your home page
- Click Quest
- Find the Quest you want to unassign
- Click the More options (...) button on the line of the class you want to unassign this quest from
- Confirm that you understand that settings, progress, assignments, and discussions for the Quest in this class will be lost by ticking the check box
- Click Unassign to confirm and return to the Quest list
Duplicating Quests
Duplicating a Quest creates an identical copy that can be edited independently, unlike when a Quest is assigned to several classes. When you duplicate a Quest, the Default class settings are used. Because each Quest and class is different, student progress and Google Classroom elements are not duplicated.
This is a great way to keep an original version of a quest before modifying copies for specific classes or situations.
- Click My Library in the upper navigation of your home page
- Click Quest
- Find the Quest you want to duplicate
- Click Duplicate in the righthand menu
- Select the class you want to create the duplicate in
- Click Continue
- Optionally: Link your Quest to a Google Classroom and objectives to assignments;
- OR click Import every objective as regular tasks
Deleting Quests
Deleting a Quest removes it from all of the classes it's assigned to. Make sure you don't need it anymore because this action is permanent and can't be undone! To delete a Quest:
- Click My Library in the upper navigation of your home page
- Click Quest
- Find the Quest you want to delete
- Click Delete in the righthand menu
- Confirm that you understand that settings, progress, assignments, and discussions for the Quest in this class will be lost by ticking the check box
- Click Delete to confirm
