Common questions when getting started
You may have some questions regarding Classcraft, even before you start playing. Don’t worry, we’re here for you!
Below are some questions commonly asked by teachers before they start using Classcraft. If you have any other questions for us, please contact us on our live chat or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Do I have to download anything to play Classcraft?
A: You don’t have to download anything. The game will run in your regular web browser. Please note that the game is optimized for Chrome, Safari, and Edge.
Q: Which platform or operating system does Classcraft work on?
A: You can play Classcraft from Chrome, Safari, or Edge web browsers on your Windows or Mac computer. The game will also run on your phone or any other mobile device with our dedicated apps. You may download our app from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS). You can also access the game using a Chromebook with your Google login.
Q: Can I use Classcraft in my classroom if my students don't have individual devices?
A: Absolutely! You can handle all Classcraft operations with a single computer. If you have one, you can display Classcraft on your projector during class. When a student wants to use a power or modify their character, they can inform you, and it can be done from the class computer. You can also set a rule so that students can only use their powers or change their character at the beginning or end of the day to streamline use.
Q: What’s the difference between the desktop and mobile versions?
A: You’ll need to set up your class on the desktop version of the game, which you'll use for everyday management. You can use the mobile app on the go or when walking around the class to give points to students. You can be logged in to one desktop browser and one mobile app at a time.
Q: What other platforms is Classcraft integrated with?
A: Classcraft is fully integrated with Google Classroom and Clever (as long as your district is using Clever). Your district may also be ClassLink-enabled. You may also log in with your Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, or ClassLink account. If your accounts are linked to Classcraft, you may upload files directly from your Google Drive or from Microsoft OneDrive.
Q: How much setup or preparation is required?
A: The initial setup will require you to add your students and divide them into teams. Make sure that you set your class duration for balanced settings. Before you present Classcraft to your students, you might want to take some time to edit your behavior presets, powers, pledges, and random events to ensure that they will work with your classroom and help you achieve specific goals.
Once your setup is complete, you can use the “Introducer” feature, which is unique for each of your classes, for a smooth introduction. You can also take a look at other features you’re thinking of using throughout the year to get better acquainted with the game and to make sure the kids feel excited about playing Classcraft.
Q: On a daily basis, how much time will Classcraft take?
A: Once the initial setup is complete, using Classcraft takes about 5 minutes of management per class hour.
Q: Can I edit my settings and presets after I’m done with the initial setup?
A: You can always edit account or class settings, even after completing the initial setup. For example, you may change behavior presets that are not working as intended or ask students for ideas. You can add behavior preset values while teaching, but if you make changes at any other time, be sure to let your students know! You can learn more about customizing your class settings here.
Q: How many students and classes can I have?
A: Whether you’re using the Free or the Premium version of Classcraft, you can create as many classes as you need. Each class can contain up to 150 students.
Q: Can I play Classcraft for free?
A: Yes! With the Free version of Classcraft, you can set behaviors and use several awesome Classcraft features, like the Random Events and the Wheel of Destiny. There’s also a Premium version, which unlocks even more features, available for individual use or through school or district licenses.
Q: Can I try the Premium features?
A: You can try all the different Premium features by using the demo class, accessible from your Teacher Dashboard.
Q: What's the difference between an individual license and a school/district license?
A: Both the individual and the school/district licenses grant access to all the Premium features of the game.
An individual license lets a single teacher create, customize, and manage as many classes as they teach. The school and district licenses grant the Premium version to all the teachers within the organization.
They also provide access to deeper analytics to help leaders get a better overview of what’s happening in their school or district. These features may also include heightened security, teacher and student rostering, group settings, PD training, and personalized support.
You can find more information about the different licenses on our Pricing page.
Q: Can I use Classcraft with other teachers?
A: If you have a class with a co-teacher, you and your co-teacher or aid would need to share login information in order to access and manage the same class. If your whole school is playing Classcraft, you’ll have access to the Co-Teachers feature, which enables several teachers to manage a specific classroom.
If several teachers in your school use Classcraft, you can connect to one another via Teacher Connect. This way, you can add students from shared rosters to ensure each student has only one account and character to manage across all their classes, which creates a more consistent experience over their school day and provides a more comprehensive view of student progress. Several settings may be adjusted when students are in multiple classes. You can find more information about using Classcraft with Teacher Connect here.
Finally, if your whole school is using Classcraft through a school license, you’ll share the school student roster.
