Student customization

Classcraft is also the students' adventure! Because ownership is super motivating for students, being able to make their character (and more) their own is really important! Because students need their own accounts to use this feature and because you can't purchase or equip gear for students, customizations unlocks in Chapter 2.

When your students first access their accounts, they'll get to select the appearance of their character. This has little to no impact on the gear they'll later have access to, they should just pick, whatever appearance they vibe most with.

Once they select their character classes, students will have another opportunity tho pick a different appearance, specific to the character class they picked.

Once they select an appearance, students can't change what their character looks like on their own. As a teacher, you can select a different appearance for them:

  1. Click the class settings gear icon in the sidebar to access your class settings
  2. Click Students
  3. In the student list, the pencil icon for the student who wants to change appearance
  4. Click the Set up button (or the pencil icon below Character)
  5. Select a new character class (if any) and appearance
  6. Click the purple button in the lower right corner to save your changes

As they level up and progress in Classcraft, students can earn Gold Pieces and purchase gear for their characters. Because students should be able to be creative, they can equip whole gear sets or mix and match pieces that they've acquired for a truly unique look!

Learn more about how students can earn Gold Pieces here.

Purchasing gear

Students each start with an initial outfit. If they want to equip any gear, they'll first need to purchase it with their Gold Pieces.

If you didn't enable student accounts or aren't using them, students won't be able to purchase and equip gear.

To purchase gear from a gear set, a student first has to reach the level at which it unlocks. If you're not sure when sets unlock, check their Level Track!

If you want to check out how it works, try the View as student feature for any high-level student in your Demo Class. To purchase new gear:

  1. Click on the gear anvil icon in the sidebar
  2. To purchase a whole set, click the first icon, otherwise, select the category (hat, top, pants, boots, powers, etc.) you want to purchase items from
  3. Click the left and right arrows to view which items from a category you have access to
  4. To buy a single item, click Buy to purchase the item, which automatically removes the correct amount of Gold Pieces

If you prefer, you can make up your whole look before buying pieces. Select all the pieces you want to equip and click Save changes instead.

You can then see a list of all you're about to purchase and the total cost. If you don't have enough Gold Pieces, you won't be able to complete the transaction but you can click the red trashcan of any item to remove it from the list.

When you're ready, click Buy and save changes to purchase and equip your new gear.

Equipping gear

Students each start with an initial outfit but as they level up and acquire new equipment, they can change their gear.

If you didn't enable student accounts or aren't using them, students won't be able to purchase and equip gear.

If you want to check out how equipping gear works, try the View as student feature for any high-level student in your Demo Class. To equip gear:

  1. Click on the gear anvil icon in the sidebar
  2. To equip a whole set, click the first icon, otherwise, select the category (hat, top, pants, boots, powers, etc.) for which you want to equip items

Seasonal and special gear

In Classcraft, there are four very special times of the year: Halloween, Winter, Valentine's Day, and April Fool’s.

For a few days every year, all students gain access to free gear and pets they can equip from their Gear screen. Special gear is available for all character classes: all students need is their very own account to access their gear.

But beware! These are available for a limited time only. Once we remove this special gear, if a student changes their equipment, their seasonal gear will disappear from their account until next year.

When October, December, February, and April roll around, keep an eye out because awesome stuff awaits!

Pets are automatically unlocked when a student purchases every single item in a gear set. Once a pet is unlocked, it can't be equipped right away, though!

Special pets

Tag-Free-En-1.png

Whether you have a free, Premium, or school license, students can earn special pets! These pets can't be trained and can be equipped immediately:

  • Baby griffon pets are acquired when a parent account is successfully linked with a student's account
  • Seasonal and special pets can appear in the gear list (such as Crista and Twiggy) and be equipped by any students

Training pets

Once a student has unlocked a new pet, they'll get to train their pet. Training their pet gives students additional Gold Pieces.

To do so, they should:

  1. Click the pets paw icon in the sidebar
  2. Use the left and right arrow to view the pets they have unlocked
  3. Click the purple Start button to send their pet on a mission

Once their pet completes their mission, after a specific number of hours, students will automatically gain the amount of Gold Pieces for the mission.

As students level up, they'll automatically unlock random backgrounds for their characters. These backgrounds can be equipped and displayed for everyone to see on the profile view.

Obtaining backgrounds

Students automatically acquire a new random background every few levels. Check the level track to know at which level, they'll get a new one. Because they're random, not all students will receive the same background at the same time.

Equipping backgrounds

Students can only equip backgrounds themselves if they have an account, but as a teacher, you can equip them for them:

  1. In the class dashboard, hover your mouse over your student's icon
  2. Select View profile
  3. In the top right corner, click the image background
  4. Use the left and right arrows to select a background
  5. Click Select background when you're ready
