Parents in Classcraft

Parents are also part of the Classcraft adventure! By inviting them, you can help them keep up with what's happening in class with their child and, together, you can extend the game experience at home.

By working hand in hand with parents, you can make the whole experience more consistent and fun for students.

Inviting parents

While you can invite parents to join the adventure right after finishing the Introduction, it's a great step to take once your students have their own accounts.

To invite parents to join the adventure:

  1. Click the Play button of the class you want to invite parents to
  2. Click the class settings gear icon in the sidebar
  3. Select Parents
  4. Click the purple Invite parents button
  5. Click Send invites if you have the parents' email address or Download handouts to give them their parent code manually

Creating parent accounts

When the parents receive their parent account invitation, whether they receive it by email or via your handout, they'll be able to create their very own account. If needed, provide them the following instructions:

  1. Proceed to the sign up page: https://accounts.classcraft.com/signup/role
  2. Click I'm a parent
  3. Enter the provided parent code
  4. Click Next
  5. Decide if you want to use an external service to sign up and log in (such as Google or Microsoft) or an email address
  6. Enter your first and last name
  7. Click Next
  8. Pick a password
  9. Click Start playing

Parents will be able to access their profile but not do anything in Classcraft until you manually approve them.

Approving parent accounts

Before parents can do anything in Classcraft, you'll need to approve them, making sure that they're actually the students' parents! Once they create their account, a few things will happen:

  • A pop up will appear when you visit your class settings, asking you to approve or deny the parent account (click the X button in the top right corner to deal with this later)
  • A to-do will appear in your Activity Center, clicking on it brings you to the parent list

When you're ready to approve the parent account, proceed to your class settings and click the Approve or Deny buttons on the parents list or on the pop up.

Unlinking parent accounts

If you mistakenly approved a request or want to unlink a parent account from a student:

  1. Click the class settings gear icons
  2. Select Parents
  3. Find the parent on the list and click the Unlink button

Adding another child to a parent account

If a parent or guardian is responsible for more than one student, it's possible to add all of them to their one account. To do so, they should:

  1. Log into their parent account
  2. Click their profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select My profile
  4. Scroll down on the lefthand section to view the buttons
  5. Click Add a child
  6. Enter the new parent code
  7. Click the purple checkmark
  8. Wait for your approval

Once you approved their accounts and they have two or more children tied to their account, parents can switch from one to the other by clicking the child's name in the upper navigation.

Verifying parent accounts

Once you approve a parent's account, they'll have a limited view of their child's account (their character and statistics) but nothing else. For the full view to become unlocked, a parent's email address needs to be verified first.

If they did not receive a verification email, parents can request a new one:

  1. Log into their parent account
  2. Click their profile icon in the top right corner
  3. Select My profile
  4. Click the Resend verification email button on the lefthand side of their profile

Parent account features and perks

Following student progress

By logging on their profile, parents can view how their child is progressing in class. As a parent, they have access to a limited version of the game feed where they can see the activity on their child's account (such as the powers they used or behaviors).

Moreover, parents can view the quests students have access to and track their progress this way, seeing what the curriculum is and even teacher feedback on their child's work.

Praising positive behaviors

Each student can earn up to 15 Gold Pieces per day from their parents. Parents can use this opportunity to praise their child's behavior outside of school such as when they complete their homework or help out around the house.

Gold Pieces are super motivating for students as they enable them to purchase new gear for their characters and there are limited ways for students to earn them (mostly in the free version!) To reward their child with Gold Pieces, parents should:

  1. View their child's character dashboard
  2. Click the purple Praise behavior button
  3. Select a behavior on the list, Add new behaviors, or pick a Quick reward

Any number of behaviors can be created and used but only a maximum of 15 Gold Pieces may be earned this way every day. When these Gold Pieces are not used, they're simply lost, so parents should visit often!

If more than one account is linked to a single student, the total of Gold Pieces available per day remains at 15.

Messaging the teacher

Using the messaging feature you can send message to all parents at once (announcements) or exchange messages with parents one-on-one. This means that parents can also use Classcraft to communicate with you through messaging.

When a parent account is linked to a student accounts, the student automatically receives baby griffon pets that they can equip to view alongside their character.
