Proactive mode powers and damage
Did your class just start playing Classcraft? Did your teacher decide to try that “fancy new mode?” You’re not sure how that affects you? Well, let’s go over all the details!
Character classes, stats and powers
Guardian
Hearts:
Crystals:
The Guardian is the sturdiest of all character classes with 10 Hearts, but they have relatively few Crystals, so you’ll need to think carefully before using a power. With their powers, Guardians protect their allies, preventing them from losing Hearts. That’s their unique ability!
When you use a Guard power, you’ll apply up to a maximum 4 shields to one or more teammates. These Shields are used first instead of Hearts when your teammate would take damage.
A Guardian’s unique game-based powers are:
Healer
Hearts:
Crystals:
The Healer is pretty average in terms of Hearts and Crystals. Their goal on the team is to make sure their teammates always have a lot of Hearts so they don’t fall. They can also protect their teammates from the negative consequences for losing all of their Hearts.
The Healer's game-based powers are:
Mages
Hearts:
Crystals:
The Mages have the least Hearts but the most Crystals, which means they can use their powers more often than Guardians and Healers. On the team, they make sure that their teammates’ Crystals reserves remain high so everyone can use their powers.
They can also cast a Shield on themselves which prevents them from losing a single Heart. Finally, Mages have a special power that lets a student get a different pledge at random.
The Mage's game-based powers are:
Statuses
What we call “Statuses” are icons on your character dashboard that have an effect on the gameplay. There are three of them: Shields, Enduring Spirit, and Graceful Fate. Let’s go over how they work!
Shields
When a Guardian uses one of their Guard powers or a Mage their Barrier power, you can see one or more Shield appear after your Hearts. These Shields work basically like Hearts: one Shield can prevent you from losing one Heart.
There are a few specific things about Shields though:
-
They don’t stack: You can only have as many Shields as the maximum number a power would give you.
Example: You’re a Mage and a Guardian on your team already gave you 2 Shields. You won’t be able to benefit from Barrier that grants one Shield until the two you have are depleted. - They last until used: Shields won’t disappear until they’re used to protect you from losing Hearts.
- They’re always removed first: Shields are the first to go whenever you would lose Hearts as their purpose is to protect you!
- They must be applied before damage occurs in order to protect you.
Enduring Spirit
When you lose all your Hearts, you fall. And when you fall, you have to commit to a pledge and all your teammates lose a few Hearts. That’s rough.
Healers can use their Enduring Spirit power to prevent the negative effects of falling once. When this power is active for you, you’ll see the lantern on your profile view light up and become purple.
When you have this status and fall, the status disappears, but you won’t suffer any of the bad stuff from falling. Unless you misbehave again, in which case…
Graceful Fate
With their Graceful Fate power, Mages can enable you to reroll a single pledge once. On your character dashboard, you’ll see a notification chip and buttons below each pledge you have. Click Use Graceful Fate to get a new random pledge and remove the status.
You can only reroll a single sentence once, so be ready to accept the new one!
Tips on using your powers
Not too sure when or how to use your powers? Check out these guidelines:
-
Be proactive!
Make sure to use your powers often and before damage occurs. This will help you keep your team out of hot water. -
Work with your teammates
Teamwork is key, here! Guardians prevent damage but they have few Crystals so Healers have to step up and keep those Hearts up while Mages make sure everyone’s got Crystals. -
Ask teacher to delay
Once a student loses Hearts, everything’s automatic. If you feel you could use Guard or another power to help beforehand, you can try asking your teacher to Deal with it later so it goes in the delayed damage queue.
